Professionally trained guardians on duty during key dates throughout the year, dedicated to ensuring Cambridge’s open spaces are safe and welcoming for all. The Open Space Guardians monitor activity, manage crowds, and support vulnerable individuals, enhancing the enjoyment and safety of public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
What is the project:
The Open Space Guardians project, in partnership with Cambridge Business Against Crime (CAMBAC), funded by the Safer Street 5 funding, places professionally trained guardians in key open spaces across Cambridge during peak times, including weekends, bank holidays, and major events. The Guardians are dedicated to ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all by monitoring activity, managing crowds, and offering assistance to those in need.
Equipped with CAMBAC radios, the Guardians are connected to other venues and support networks in the city, allowing for swift responses to incidents and better support for vulnerable individuals. They are on hand to provide directions, administer first aid, and address any issues that arise in Cambridge’s public spaces.
Who does it benefit:
The Open Space Guardians benefit all who visit Cambridge’s open spaces by fostering a safe and respectful atmosphere. Their presence not only supports visitors but also assists local authorities in managing crowds and maintaining a positive environment during busy periods.
Project Status:
Operating on weekends, bank holidays, and other strategically chosen dates throughout the year.
