Maria Manion (Chief Executive) and Hannah Lee (Digital Marketing Coordinator) recently spoke to students at the Westminster Working Cultures event. The programme enables students to hear from a variety of different speakers from different positions and industries and learn more about what is on offer for them when they graduate from university.
Maria and Hannah both spoke to students about their experience through university, previous roles they have worked in and what lead them to working at Cambridge BID. They also offered advice and answered questions the students had.
Since speaking at the event, Maria and Hannah received some wonderful feedback from the students which you can read below.
· "I would like to thank you for the advice you gave because it really connected with me and my career journey."
· "I am one of probably thousands of students that is overwhelmed by the prospect of leaving education and entering the work place, but your session helped me to feel more relaxed and excited for the future. Thank you for sharing your amazing advice!"
· "It was so great to hear from you, Hannah and Maria! What stood out the most from Hannah was your key advice on not just saying yes to everything, but to weigh up the pros and cons when an opportunity presents itself. This is something I will implement by carefully considering opportunities that are right for me to take. Maria helped me to understand the importance of adaptability and how your degree does not define you."
· "Thank you, Hannah for sharing the marketing campaigns you're working on. Your insights were incredibly valuable and provided us practical knowledge that can be applied to any business in the realm of social media marketing. Thank you as well to Maria for sharing your inspirational journey of switching to a completely different career and succeeding. Your message was clear, "don't stick to just one career." You have inspired me to stay open to new possibilities even outside of my field of study."
· "I really enjoyed listening to Maria and Hannah from Cambridge BID Company. It was an incredibly motivating session, and opened my eyes to resilience, positivity, and the many paths you can take after graduation. I loved Maria's advice on "it's better to live with I tried and I failed, rather than I wish I'd done that." It was also very encouraging to hear that what you bring to a company is more important than your degree itself. Her journey and advice reminded me that personality traits like talking, listening, understanding, and respecting others are crucial in the workplace. Her story was very inspiring for me as it aligned with what I have also encountered and has given me ideas and understanding in my own scenarios at work. I also appreciated how Hannah shared that she can be shy when public speaking because it's something I also struggle with. Hearing the tips on overcoming this was really helpful."
