Purple Flag Halloween, Safety Initiatives in Full Force

Since 2019, Cambridge has proudly held the Purple Flag status, a prestigious accreditation that recognises the city’s excellence in managing its evening and night-time economy. Much like the Blue Flag for outstanding beaches, the Purple Flag signifies that Cambridge is not only a vibrant and thriving destination after dark but also a safe, welcoming, and well-organised environment for residents, students, and visitors alike. From bustling restaurants to lively cultural events, Purple Flag represents a commitment to creating a dynamic cityscape where safety and enjoyment go hand in hand—making Cambridge the perfect place to experience life after hours.

As Halloween weekend approaches, the city is preparing for well managed celebration under the Purple Flag status. On the night of October 26th, the streets of Cambridge will come alive with festivities, and thanks to a strong partnership between Cambridge BID, CAMBAC, and other key stakeholders, the city will have enhanced safety measures in place.

In a collaborative effort to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all revellers, NightliteStreet PastorsSt John AmbulanceTaxi MarshalsOpen Space Guardians, Green Stripe Taxis and CCTV Support will be working together along with our incredible nighttime venues throughout the evening, providing essential support to residents and visitors alike. This robust range of services will ensure that the city's night-time economy thrives while those visiting have the best experience possible.

As Halloween night approaches on October 31st, the city is preparing for another well managed celebration under the Purple Flag status. Cambridge will once again come alive with celebrations, with enhanced safety measures ensuring a secure environment for all. Nightlite will be open throughout the evening, offering a welcoming and safe space for anyone who feels unwell, needs a moment of calm, or simply wants to pop in and say hello. Open Space Guardians will be present on the greens, providing additional support, while Taxi Marshals, stationed across key locations, will assist those needing safe transportation home.

The Taxi Marshals, funded through Cambridge BID and the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner, will be stationed at key locations to help people travel safely, while St John Ambulance, fully funded by Cambridge BID, will be on-site, ready to provide medical assistance if needed. Their presence, alongside the efforts of other vital services, exemplifies the city's commitment to ensuring a secure and enjoyable Halloween night for all.

In support of these safety measures, Cambridge BID and CAMBAC continues to lead the Purple Flag initiative, in partnership with a dedicated working group that includes, the University of CambridgeAnglia Ruskin University (ARU), the Cambridge City CouncilCambridgeshire Police, and key city venues such as The Regal (Wetherspoon)MASH, and KiKi. This united approach highlights the power of collaboration between local authorities, academic institutions, and businesses in safeguarding the community.
